Become an Active City! Unveiling the PACTE project’s Matrix for Change

PACTE project has just launched its Matrix for Change. A transversal and user-friendly tool created specifically for local authorities, the Matrix for Change addresses real issues and bridges existing gaps. It provides holistic solutions to decrease sedentarity levels and guides municipalities to further develop, or start, their Active City Action Plans through four settings: Active City, Active School, Active Mobility, and Active Workplace. Promoting Active Cities Throughout Europe is also coming to a close. After almost 3 years of collaboration and ambitious work, project partners prepare to offer a last memorable event to stakeholders through the ‘Become an Active City! Unveiling the PACTE project’s Matrix for Change’ event, that will be held on Thursday 26 November afternoon.

The XVIIIth edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities kicked off Monday 5 of October in an unprecedented online format. Sport and Citizenship attended the event through two workshops on October 7: “Promoting Greener Sport in our regions”, and “Innovation Hubs for Sport&Vitality”. For the first time, sport-related workshops were included in the European Week of Regions and Cities programme. We are, therefore delighted to say that it was an interesting opportunity to find out more about the future of sport towards the greener transition put forward by the European Commission, especially regarding the regional dimension.

Together, they reflected on the role of sports in climate action and launched the Sports for Climate Action Framework to "raise awareness among a wide audience about the need to act for the well-being of the planet". While the conclusions of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are troubling, environmental awareness is rising, and the sports world now understand its impact on the environment.

Next stop for the PACTE project is its Active Education Workshop held in Berlin on the 21st and 22nd of February. The workshop is co-organised with the European Physical Education Association (EUPEA), the project consortium’s expert partner on the topic of physical activity and education for children.
